Sweden's Answer to the Golden Girls

| | Comments (3)
Linguistic findings from my trip to Sweden a few weeks ago:

  • The literal translation of the title of the Swedish version of "Cinderella" is "Ash Kid."
  • In Sweden they weren't called "The Golden Girls."  They were called "Panther Ladies!!!"
Tally of various celebrations I attended in Sweden a few weeks ago, despite only being there for 6 days:

  • One 50th birthday party in a barn
  • One 1st birthday party on a patio
  • One 26th birthday party in a regular house
  • One wedding party in a big Valhalla-style banquet hall
Photographic findings from my trip to Sweden a few weeks ago:

  • Go to my Flickr photo set, and note that I went to the trouble of making it into a bit of a narrative so you'd know what was going on.
Videographic bonus from my trip to Sweden a few weeks ago, where my friends surprised me at their wedding by forcing the band to learn how to play the theme song from "Dallas" in my honor:

How do you know people from Sweden? And on a completely unrelated topic, I found the most AWESOME Christmas present EVER for you. But I'm not going to tell you whether I bought it or not. You'll have to wait until Thanksmas to find out.

So here is my recipe for meeting Swedish people:

  1. Move to Australia.
  2. Go to the wrestling matches in Melbourne.
  3. Randomly sit next to someone who just returned from a vacation to the US, and start chatting.
  4. Important! This person you sit next to must be Croatian.
  5. Befriend this person and her cousin, and return to Melbourne a few times a month to hang out with them.
  6. Have your Croatian-Australian friends invite their Croatian-Swedish cousin and his girlfriend to spend the summer in Australia.
  7. Spend time with the Swedes, perhaps inviting them to your home in Wagga Wagga, or by joining them on a road trip to the mountains.
  8. Stay in touch with the Croatian-Swedish cousin and his Swedish-Swedish girlfriend, and voila! Friends for life!

That seems pretty complicated. Can't I just blog about Swedish people and they magically come read and leave comments? Or maybe just fly to Sweden and make some friends in the airport parking lot and get invited to their cousin's wedding?
